review 1: I struggled with what rating to give this book. I would probably say it's a 1.5, but I gave it a 2 because it kept my attention. Although I like mysteries, this is not a book I would normally read, but I kept going because I wanted to find out what would happen to Jane. I was willing to overlook the fact that she isn't a very likable character, and is excessively profane, but I felt sorry for her and hoped that she might have a somewhat happy ending. WRONG! The ending was terrible and made me mad that I invested any amount of time in this book. Overall a disappointing read.
review 2: I loved how this started - if Anna Nicole Smith gave birth to Paris Hilton who was then accused of killing her mom, served ten years in prison and was released, and is in disguise
... morelooking for the 'real killer' in middle America. But then the story became the complicated relationships and history in a small town - some of this was interesting but a little too much about gold deeds and so forth. And while the slightly caricatured TMZ main character was a fun portrayal, that style didn't work on the small town denizens. less
