review 1: Really good, surprisingly gripping read. Pisani is a little off-putting in the opening pages (along the lines of 'this was the prime of my youth and weren't we all bright-young-things'), but she progresses to discussing the epidemic of HIV, the government/NGO responses and the cold hard facts. This is the first book on the subject, so for all I know she could be way off base, but it comes across as a well-researched and interesting book on a controversial topic.
