review 1: 4.5 starsI have two older sisters and know that much of my personality is probably a result of being the youngest of three girls. When I saw this book was about 4 sisters, I had to read it and I was not disappointed. (side note: I think the cover suggests that this book is mainly about Natalie and I would have preferred a cover more "sisterly.")I will admit that it took me a little while to get into the story. For the first quarter, I couldn't keep the sisters straight. Once I got a solid understanding of Avril, Millie, Natalie, and Hazel's personalities, I couldn't put the book down. None of them were anything like me and my sisters but they were all very distinctive, very interesting, and very amusing! I particularly appreciated the unpredictability of the romance becaus... moree it took me a long time to finally be certain who Matt (who was adorable and sexy) was going to end up with! Kudos to the author for keeping me guessing. Besides the fact that it took me a little while to get into, the only other comment I have is that I didn't understand how Peg (the mother) was so blind to how incompatible Natalie and Jeremy were, and kept supporting their marriage no matter what else was going on. Great book and I will definitely read more from this author.
review 2: I recieved "How To Survive Your Sisters" through First Reads. It is the story of four sisters with contrasting personalities, differing views about childhood memories, old wounds, and dark secrets that come together for the first time in years to celebrate one's wedding. Tragedy strikes and they fight harder before coming together. The MacLeod sisters reminded me of Marian Keyes' Walsh family, but because the novel was about all four sisters rather than focusing on one, it took me awhile to even like any of the characters let alone root for them. By the end, however, I was rooting for them and was happy with the ending. The biggest weakness was the ending for Natalie. Her final scene could have been more drawn out so that we got a feel for the relationship. less
