review 1: The characters were interesting, both the main ones and the side characters. All had depth and were interesting to learn about. I did feel that after the main two got together a lot of crap happened. All very extreme, all very quickly. Left me kinda confused, breathless and emotionally spent. Maybe if the book had been longer (it was probably a novella), and those events all could be spread out more, I'd have enjoyed the progression more. I did like the future glimpses after that calmed down though. And the tie in with the title at the end was a nice touch, and very real for the reader as well. Pretty good sex scenes. A good perspective on different types of non-feme gays.
review 2: Ugh, why did not like this book when all my friends here on goodreads pretty mu... morech loved it??!!!!Besides having uber expectations about this, I found myself growing extremely impatient about getting Carlos and Greg some page time. For about half the book, they were boss and employee with very few scenes of interaction. Frankly, I didn't buy their connection. Not to mention that the number of times the whole "small town, small pickings" was thrown out there was enough for me to be sceptical about the convenience of it all.The writing was alright, but I was really hoping for more focus on the relationship development. I can deal with the relationship not being the 100% focal point,as long as I care about everything else that's going on. I couldn't bring myself to care about the silly subplots with Greg's dad and Sam, or the lengthy conversations between Ricky and Greg -"You have a hard-on for this guy don't you? No, I don't!" Repeat, repeat, repeat.By the time the guys got together, I had completely lost interest in following the drama and I ended up a very unsatisfied reader. Can't say others won't enjoy it, because clearly I am the odd one out, considering that my friends who read it liked it a lot. Just didn't sit well with me personally, I guess.
