review 1: I've wanted to read this since the cliff hanger ending of book 1. The beginning kept me on the edge of my seat as Orissa fights to get medicine to save Hayden's life. I did have an issue with Orissa at this section. She plays hero and lures a group of undead away from her team, telling them to wait twenty minutes and if she's not back take off. Then she gets pissed off when they listen. It wasn't her regular team so why did she expect them to thing anything other than she got ate. What she goes through after is unfortunate but giving her crazy antics it's better than what could have happened. I did like that she was compassionate enough to take the other girl held captive with her along. Actually I would have been disappointed with her if she hadn't. To be honest once she... more gets back to the compound, the book lagged. I grew a bit bored with the normal, it did pick back up. Lots of zombie fighting, and then another lull as they recuperate. But the ending was the real kicker for me. It also cinch that I won't be reading the rest of the books in the series. I felt that it was a stupid risk that they took and they should've just turned around and went home. I felt the whole thing was ignorant. I feel the author was trying to rope readers in with the ending and for me it was just to much.
review 2: I really am enjoying this series. Although, I have to admit, at first this was kind of draggy for me in the beginning. I wasn't too thrilled. I can't wait to get my hands on the third book. Orissa is so talented, handy to have around, and useful. Probably no ones first choice before the zombie apocalypse. No expectations in life and mediocrity being the norm for her. Then all hell breaks loose and she really steps up and shows her stuff. I love Padraic and all the friends that she has made along the way. An interesting and colorful array of them. Especially her hottie boyfriend-Hayden. She is his equal, but at times I believe she has got one up on him ;) I love how fast paced this is. How she thinks up things on the fly. There is so much thinking to be done and there is no time to dose off. Literally survival of the quickest here. I love the classifications of the zombies that have been placed in this story. Absolutely makes sense, there is always, a beginning, middle, and an end-unless the end is sooner, meeting of some blunt force through the head, severing it from their spine...Okaaaay... There is so much suspense, I swear Emily Goodwin had me constantly at the edge of my seat. On top of that, she sure loved to frustrate me...especially whenever Orissa & Hayden were out on missions and would just stop in the middle of wherever the hell they were, out and about and would kiss or have a conversation. The whole time I am repeating in my head; "eyes open people"..."zombies!, Fuckin' ZOMBIES!! What.the.hell!?", "where are the zombies", "watch out", "Hurry up!!!!" It got to the point where I felt the need to close the book and step away for a while. Hence the dates...My heart would be in my throat all.the.time! The ending to this book is so shocking to me I really wasn't expecting it. Well, then there were the mysterious things happening that no one knew what was going on and placing it on the back burner. I guess in a way, it was to be expected. Although, I was very focused on the cannibalistic undead roaming. Two more books on their way to us. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LURV!Oh yeah...P.S. there are a helluva lot of close calls, you wouldn't believe. I found to be literally holding my breath during each one and every time. I'd never realize it until it was over and I actually had to take gulps of air... less
