review 1: This book is intriguing, fascinating, interesting. There were many times throughout the book when I couldn't wait to find out what would happen. My son who is 10, absolutely loved it. He thinks it's a great book and can't wait to read the next one. I also want to continue. This book does leave the enough things unresolved that the reader will most likely want to continue to the next book. Some things I did feel were unrealistic. However, as it's a children's novel and science fiction, maybe those things are details are not important. I totally loved the connection between Ellie and mika.
review 2: I really struggled to get through this book. It's rare to read a YA novel where the YA characters actually act their age (you know, like 12 year olds acting 16 or
... more17, making mature decisions, falling in love, etc.), but in this novel, I thought they came across as pretty immature, even for 12. The plot just kind of twisted and turned and a lot of things made absolutely no sense and came out of nowhere with no explanation. Yes, it had lots of excitement, which is the only reason it got 2 stars from me. But a lot of the concepts were farfetched and unbelievable, and honestly just made me roll my eyes. I didn't like the characters; besides being immature, they were obnoxious and bland. I didn't like the world; it was creepy, and not good creepy, and I couldn't picture it at all. I could go on and on with my issues with this book, but I just don't feel like burning up any more brain cells thinking about it. (Another thing I didn't like about this book, and this is just me being weird, is that every time I thought about the title, I got that stupid Katy Perry song stuck in my head. And I really hate that song.) less

Good, clean young adult fiction with a very interesting concept. A bit simplistic though.

This is a good one for younger readers who aren't quite ready for hunger games.
