review 1: Futuristic world where most of the inhabitants live in cities walled off from the rest of the planet because of an animal plague. Mika lives in a section of the city where sunlight is almost nonexistent, where everyone eats food manufactured from slime or mold, where there is no hope. Especially for him, since his twin sister disappeared a year ago. He still believes she is alive; no one else does, not even his parents.Mika is offered the chance to play a game. At first he is resistant, but encouraged by the off-beat therapist he has been seeing, he joins in. He hopes to make contact with his sister, who he can feel out there. The world may not be as Mika has been told. The reader sees that Mika has been correct in believing his sister is alive, but all will be surpri... moresed to see how many lies have been told.
review 2: This book is an amazing grab. It has an outstanding storyline with many surprises and lots of foreshadowing. This is one of the better books I've read for a long time. It’s set in a dystopian world were the earths population is all packed into a third of the planet. This happened because a lab rat had escaped and started a new plague. This plague spread across all wildlife so it was named “the animal plague”. Humanity was forced to build walls to protect them selves from the animals. They built walls from bedrock to fifty feet in the air. In this dystopian world a girl was taken by the government (possibly— I haven't finished the book) because she has super human abilities. She is called a mutant because of her powers, but there are more mutants out there. After being taken, a government official told the girl’s family she died and told the girl her family had died. After being told about her family, she tried to escape to her family’s fold up flat in what the book calls a “pod fighter” because she was in disbelief that her family had died. Later the government catches her and I haven’t gotten any further than that. All in all so far it’s been outstanding I can't wait to read more. less
