review 1: Wrong time of year to have read 'Driving Home for Christmas'. An enjoyable light read, I liked the family story, of course you knew all would end well. I loved the fact that Holly, the mother, couldn't afford heating oil, but had no issue buying loads of wool for 20 jumpers, fish & chips for the family and all the visiting friends. The image of the falling snow was beautiful. I will deffo find another book by Emma Hannigan to enjoy!
review 2: I gave this 4 stars because I enjoyed the book. It is not great literature, and is basic chick lit. But the family at the center of the book is appealing. Of course everyone is happy at the end of the book, but it's Christmas afterall. A few things that really stretched reality - the mom who is struggling to buy heating oi
... morel for the house, goes out an buys bags and bags of yarn for "the old dears" at the Senior Center so they can knit up sweaters for each of her family members in a week! And because there are so many of the old dears, some knit sleeves, some fronts etc. Of course the sweaters are disasters but because they knit sweaters with designs such as santas missing eyes, and reindeers with 3 antlers. SO not only did they team knit half a dozen sweaters in a week, but did intarsia! The other unbelievable bit was that it snowed (at one point it said several feet) in Dublin and Wicklow on Christmas Eve. I live in Maryland and we never seem to have a white Christmas. But those points aside, there were other aspects of the story that were not believable such as Pippa's setting up an online business in 48 hours and making loads of money. But as I said already, it is a Christmas story:) less
