The Mercury II is a 35 mm camera that shoots half frames so you get 72 photos. This is my husband Ron’s camera but since I do most of the scanning and posting I decided to share some photos from his first roll. I scanned them as diptychs to speed up the process. He encountered a few problems and had to rewind the film, take it out, and re-load. I always think it is a good idea to post teaching moments as well as, what the photographer might think, are perfect photos. Most of the photos were underexposed and out of focus. I also noticed several scratches across the negatives and am not sure if this happened during exposing, processing or scanning. The next roll will tell.
A little about the film used: He used Ilford XP2 Super with an ISO of 400. Although the photos are black and white, the film is processed using C41 chemistry. When I scanned I used the settings for color negatives. Remember to tell your lab if they aren’t familiar with the film.
So here are a few shots he took in Blue Moon Camera and Machine in Portland, Oregon. It is our go-to film only camera store where “everybody knows your name”.
