review 1: This is a tale in the setting of Scotland Yard and with some great characters! The humour is there from the start and Kate has some great comebacks but is also human enough to have her mouth run away with her on occasion. There is banter between colleagues that is a pleasure to read. The mystery itself is gripping and leads you down the path of discovery. You can either try to figure it out by yourself first, or like me, let the story deliver itself to you. This was a brilliant, top-notch book and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
review 2: I would've given this four stars except for two things.1) Editing. Self explanatory. In this book, it's not so much grammar stuff, but simple things like switching characters' names.2) The romance.
... more Completely unbelievable. I was into the characters and their personal lives. I liked it, quite a lot. I would've been invested in them WITHOUT the romance. The way it was sprung in the middle of the book, well, it was like a bad erotica novel. I actually had to laugh out loud at how ridiculous the scene was.Not to mention that Kate is portrayed as a detective with some edges that need smoothing. Tony is a mentor figure. When the love angle starts to come into play, the mentoring shifts slightly and becomes rather creepy instead.Without the romance element, the book was really good--good mystery, good clues, believable characters. I loved the interaction and good-natured teasing between Kate and Paul. I did end up buying book #2 in the series. less
