review 1: Rebecca's Christmas Gift by Emma Miller was a very enjoyable book for me. I found myself getting lost in this sweet Amish romance that I read quickly in a couple hours on a blustery Saturday afternoon. I can't think of a better way to spend a bleary, cold day! The book introduces us to Caleb Wittner who has just moved to Seven Poplars Delaware after the death of his wife in a devastating fire. He too suffered burns to part of his face and hands, which has left him disfigured. He is now a widowed father who is struggling to raise his mischievous 4 year old daughter Amelia. He has also just been chosen as the new preacher for the Amish community of Seven Poplars. And, due to all the heartbreak that he has been dealt, Caleb is perceived by many of the young girls who h... moreave taken care of his daughter and household to be a gruff individual, who doesn't smile and takes everything serious. Rebecca Yoder is a twenty-something Amish girl whose family volunteers her to watch after Caleb's daughter and household when he begins having trouble finding help. And while the whole situation is not always smooth, Rebecca finds herself becoming attached to Caleb and Amelia. But, will Caleb be able to move past all the hurt in his heart to find new love as well? Although the story is a bit predictable, it really doesn't matter for those of us who love a happily ever after type story. The story kept me interested the whole time, the writing was descriptive and pertinent, and I found that I wanted to keep following along with the story of Caleb and Rebecca - I didn't want the book to end. I also discovered that this book was a part of a series called Hannah's Daughters, so I will definitely not only be looking for the other books in the series, but also for any other books by this author. I received this e-book from NetGalley in return for my honest review , and I would like to thank the publisher for giving me the opportunity to review it.
review 2: I'd been waiting for Rebecca's story & was not disappointed. Rebecca becomes the housekeeper/nanny for new Amish preacher Caleb Wittner, a widower new to town with a 4-year-old daughter, Amelia. As Caleb adjusts to his new life & responsibilities, he realizes he needs a wife. He also believes Rebecca is too young & flighty to be a preacher's wife, so he sets his sights on cousin Dorcas...not knowing Rebecca has feelings for him.More insights into Amish life, and found the Old Order selection of preachers interesting. Ms Miller's story was one I couldn't put down. Wonder where she'll take us next?! :) less
