review 1: Wow, this book, wasn't horrible but it wasn't great. Firstly, it reminded me of the Covenant Series by Armentrout but nowhere near as good. She was a chosen one with a type of godly power who was sassy and hard headed who liked a guy she couldn't have and was like by other guys and struggle with authority. And now that I'm reviewing it, what was the conflict? Yeah, something was after her but I feel like if you asked me what the book was about, I couldn't really tell you. There were some parts of the book that were really great, and other part where I was like wtf? And the concept was a little hard for me to follow. It wasn't really brought across well. I don't know. I can only say I didn't dislike the book and to be honest, I don't think I'll read the second because the b... moreook didn't leave me wanting more like a good cliffhanger but it didn't tie loose ends like a HEA.
review 2: SPOILER ALERT!!!Honestly, I won't give this book a higher rating because I found many aspects of the plot to be lacking. I didn't like it when the heroin didn't bother to develop a thought process, favoring the random drops of information tidbits or ill timed blackouts. I also found the narrative to be somewhat detached and shallow, lacking in true depth. Personal, first person narrative is generally meant to express a character's personality and make it possible for us readers to connect on some scale or better understand some parts of her unique world. Why give us a glossary at the end of the book if she can just inconspicuously explain some of the more complex terms, why mention some things if you aren't going to reveal a deeper meaning or philosophy? Another major shortcoming for this book is the romantic story arc. Although I felt butterflies at some moments ( which is really important for me ), I simply couldn't connect with this idea on a deeper level. Was it just the author's way of making the plot more exciting by adding the whole forbidden love slash complex, on-a-higher-level love aspect? Because, even though I may find Tristan hot and alluring and enticing, that doesn't mean I see how Kendra could so blindly fall in love with him. less

Oh wow! This book was amazing and sad at the same time. I can not wait for the final book.

It was very good. I like VA and the Covenant series better, but still a good read.
