review 1: I read it. I didn't find it interesting. I'm wondering why the author likes to match two unmatched characters.Gustave Flaubert enjoyed to be with prostitutes and Florence Nightingale, was from a family with high moral values, and high moral values mean they expect the women don't pass some ethic lines. Honestly, it's not the novel I recommend. Even the images the author gives from Egypt seem they are between late 19th century and today and sometimes neither, fluent in the time and space.
review 2: What if Florence Nightingale and Gustave Flaubert struck up a friendship while travelling in Egypt prior to their subsequent professional success? What a wonderful premise for a novel! Even better, this lady can write! The quality of her writing reminded me of Rosa... morelind Brackenbury at times; I was not surprised to find out that she also writes poetry. This is her first novel; I hope she writes more. less
