review 1: As a southwestern variation of The Three Little Pigs, this book worked pretty well. There was a little bit of set up to get the tamales in their situation, but this allowed for some more discussion of southwestern culture. The illustrations were engaging and vibrant, but the requisite rhyme of the story was difficult to say, almost as though there was an extra line added in that didn't fit the pattern. Otherwise, I enjoyed the book, and REALLY wanted to eat some tamales afterward.

... moreut just in time to escape to her brother's cornstalk house. The cornstalk house goes down just as quickly and both tamales escape to their sisters cactus house. The wolf tries knocking at the door and of course gets stickers in his paws. when he tries to blow the house down, it stands firm. So he tries going in through the chimney and ends up in a pot of water. He quickly decides that he does not want to be a wolf tamale and rockets himself back up the chimney, never to bother the tamales again. less
