review 1: Verity is augmented, she has super powers (as does the rest of her family) and uses them to fight evil Razorfire and his cohorts. I kept thinking of X-men while reading this. She has lost her memory due to treaments recieved in a mental institution. She escapes and with help from Glimmer, her memory slowly returns. It was an intersting mystery with lost of action. Oddly enough I really like Razorfire, I wish his relaionship with Verity had gone off in another direction.
review 2: Scorched was a pleasant surprise. For one, I'm not big on superhero books. I loved the X-Men comics, but haven't been too impressed with the superhero novel. For two, I tend to figure most stories out, but with Scorched, while I managed to figure out pieces (a few just before they
... more were revealed), there was a lot I DIDN'T figure out. I love books that challenge me that way and leave me something to be surprised over. My only issue was that there were places where the writing was too abrupt. I think the author was attempting to increase the tension, but it just came off as choppy and made me more aware of the writing, detracting from the story and breaking the suspension of disbelief a little. And there were places where Verity was...too far out there for me. I get WHY she was so over the edge, it just didn't quite work for me. Despite these two things, I did enjoy the story, and might even be willing to pick up a second Verity book. It would be kinda interesting to see if things do heal in the future. less

It's a good book. I wish/hope there is a second one.

An interesting "take" on the superhero genre.
