review 1: The Viscount's Christmas Temptation is a prequel to Erica Ridley's first series, Dukes of War. In London, England in 1815 Lady Amelia Pembroke, meticulously ran her younger brothers estate. She had be running it since their mother died when Amelia was only twelve. Now as a spinster at the age of nine and twenty, she realizes that unless she finds a husband her brother will never marry for fear of displacing his sister when she wife took over his estate. Not wanting to stand in the way of her brother's happiness,Lady Amelia concocts the rational idea of narrowing down her potential suitors by crossing off those without the right rank or the right reputation. She then planns to meet the ones that were suitable all under the same roof at the Sheffield seventy fifth annual Chr... moreistmas ball. When her brother told her that the Christmas ball was canceled, Amelia decided to take things into her own hands. Even if it meant working the Viscount Sheffield, a man known for his reckless night time behavior. Will she find a husband? Do opposites really attract? Is being rational the right approach to love?Though this prequel was short the author did a wonderful job giving the right amount of details in regards to the characters personalities and the setting. Anything more would have slowed down the plot of the story, making the story seem to drag on. Since that wasn't the case the plot smoothly went from one event to the next like one dancing to a slow song. I recommend for anyone who likes romance or historical fiction stories. I received this book as an ARC from Librarything.com. All my opinions are my own
review 2: This was a lovely little story. It's the prequel novella to Ms. Ridley's DUKES OF WAR series. Book one, The Earl's Defiant Wallflower (Dukes of War Book 1) is currently available for pre-order. In any event, this story makes for a very lighthearted, fun read. It's very short, so there isn't a lot of detail or character development, yet still, the author managed to create a story that is thoroughly engaging, with characters that are both likeable and relatable.Lady Amelia Pembroke is the elder sister of the Duke of Ravenswood--I'm assuming that he will get his own story at some future time. Since the tender age of fourteen, with the loss of their parents, Lady Amelia has single-handedly managed her brother's extensive ducal households, with a level of efficiency that borders on the supernatural. Amelia is so efficient that even her contingency plans, have contingencies. LOL Of course, Lady Amelia's efficiency is overblown to the extreme in the story, and is meant to be a source of humor, rather than taken seriously. This story is sweet, and fun with moments of LOL humor. The book is well written, the storyline interesting and engaging.Lady Amelia is a one woman efficiency machine. She manages everything and everyone around her, including her doting ducal sibling. Amelia has decided that her brother needs a wife; however, that her brother needs a wife, but she also realizes that until she herself is wed, sibling loyalty will prevent her brother from seeking a life-mate. To that end, Amelia devises a scheme by which she will secure herself a husband before her 30th birthday, which is only a few weeks away. For the efficiency's sake, Amelia decides that the Sheffield Annual Christmastide Ball is the perfect venue to view and select a prospective husband, as everyone who is everyone is sure to be in attendance. Unfortunately, the event has been cancelled because the Sheffield ballroom was destroyed by a fire. Unwilling to give up on her marriage plans, Lady Amelia decides to offer her services to Viscount Sheffield to find a new venue and organize the ball. From their very first meeting, Benedict is intrigued by the lovely, managing, practical Lady Amelia. At first he seeks only to humor her until he can let her down gently, but soon he finds himself going along with all her plans and ideas. However, all the while Benedict is seemingly meekly acquiescing to Amelia's scheme, he has plans of his own. For while Amelia has decided to choose a husband at the Sheffield ball, Benedict has decided that Lady Amelia suits him very well!Overall this is a very engaging story. It's nothing earth shattering, but if you're in the mood for something fun lighthearted this just may be the ticket. FYI, this is a squeaky clean romance! BTW, although the page counted is listed at 180 pages, the story actually ends at about 75% in. The rest of the book is acknowledgements and a sneak peak at book one is the DUKES series. Happy reading! less

Reminded me a bit of Georgette Heyer's Grand Sophy. I enjoyed it and wished it were a tad longer
