review 1: This had a similar feel to it like the story "Compromised" by this same author. But I felt that this one was better paced and didn't totally confuse me at the end. I did find myself skimming past some of the sex scenes but that's because I was too eager to find out what happens next in the story. Kept me glued to it in the end. I also noticed the Eggroll to burger editing snafu but I've seen worse and it didn't detract from the story for me.
review 2: This wasn't bad, given that I don't care for Area 51-type sci-fi stories, whether they are just govt experiments gone wrong or real aliens preserved in formaldehyde (Subject 13 falls in the former category). I found myself struggling to finish this book even though I was interested enough to want to know the i
... moredentity of 'DG'.DG's file notes commences each chapter (or most chapters iirc) and while his/her identity is not difficult to guess once you meet him/her, don't be too smug. This is where I'm not happy - I was intrigued enough about the mystery surrounding Luke's birth and childhood and how it connected to Oasis (the 'Area 51' of this story) but getting to the answers was such a chore. I felt as if I was wading through a seaweed-clogged sea. Okay, that's probably an exaggeration because I suspect much of my lack of enjoyment was due to my own physical tiredness when I was reading it.The addition of Shane, Luke's cheating asshole-of-an-ex was another minus. He was overdone and caricaturish, adding nothing positive to an already wobbly book. Ben, the other MC, started off okay but he started losing points with me as the story wore on. There was no convincing reason (to me) for his cold-then-hot-then-cold behavior with Luke. In some books, this game-playing from the in-denial MC creates the sexual tension and can be fun. Not here. In this case, I wanted to yell at both Shane and Ben to go away and leave me and the story alone so we could find out whether the blue men in Luke's nightmares are aliens or not.In conclusion, I'd say it was the romance thread, then, that spoilt the story. And, remembering I don't care for Area 51 mysteries, I say the mystery thread is intriguing enough that I finished the book and went "Oh, really." at the last paragraph. less
