review 1: All Hal has ever wanted is a dog. When he asks for one again on his birthday, his parents decide to rent one for the weekend. Foolishly, they think that after two days they'll be able to return the dog, as Hal will have gotten it out of his system. Of course we know that's not going to happen! Hal and his dog, who he has named Fleck, run away from home. Their destination is is his grandparents home - miles away, as Hal knows they'll welcome Fleck. His parents report him kidnapped, and before he knows it, Hal is being pursued by a variety of shifty adults who want the reward being offered. What a great adventure! And a fun dog story too.
review 2: Absolutely bloody fantastic heartwarming book that left me grinning all over my face. Such a sweet lovely s... moretory of Hal and his dog Fleck and their adventures but mainly about doggy devotion and love!Ibbotson has captured the human/dog relationship so well - be warned that if your child reads this book you will be inundated with requests for a dog. Super super book - I loved it and recommend it to anyone over the age of 7! less
