review 1: A fine history of how Theodore Roosevelt, Henry Cabot Lodge and William Randolf Hearst goaded the United States into the Spanish/American war and how William James and House Speaker Thomas Reed opposed it. The central question of the book is "why do we love war so much?" The most interesting figure in the book is obviously Roosevelt, a man's man bent on proving himself and requiring a war to do it.
review 2: This book was informative and fairly entertaining, although it seemed as if the author couldn't decide between telling a story or providing the historical details of an encyclopedia narrative. Had they each been mixed together it would have made the book a little more interesting as opposed to what seemed to be an inconsistent flow between the two. The au
