review 1: I love historical fiction/romance books! And this one was amazing. Ellie is the daughter of an alchemist with a title of a Spanish Princess that has no money behind it. Will is a poor earl who is looking to marry rich so that his family can get back on their feet. They meet during the season, and kind of despise each other. Ellie moves to the town the earl owns and despite their odds fall in love, but one thing stand in the way, Lady Jane who is the rich lady Will needs to marry. This book made my heart melt. The romance between Ellie and Will was adorable. Jane was a lively and lovely character who I tried to hate but just couldn't.
review 2: I really loved this book, although I made the stupid mistake of reading the second book in the series before I realise... mored that there was one to read before it! Nevertheless I thought the story was gripping and, at times, shocking. The love between Ellie and Will seems totally real and convincing and the language used by Eve Edwards is so effective and makes me want to live in that time period! The only thing I would rate it down on is the fact that the narrative is very similar and each book of the series, so much so that it does become a bit predictable and I would even argue that the love between each Lacy brother and their interests is portrayed in exactly the same way in each book, just introducing new characters. This didn't stop me from loving it, though, and I would seriously recommend it to anyone of any age who loves a bit of historical romance! less
