review 1: This slight but charming historical romance tells the story of mischevious player Kit Turner and Puritan merchnat's daughter Mercy Hart. The plot may be predictable and the language occasionally slip into anachronimsms, but it's still full of the charm of historical detail and the lively relationship between Kit and Mercy. I actually found the familiarity of the plot comforting, part of the great appeal of teen romance. Overall, a great read for a rainy Saturday
review 2: I took a while for the characters to have a real substance for the book to be consuming. I love books that can sweep you into their world. This book didn't have much of that fight until the very end. I liked the ending, but I can't say I loved this book. The story starts out as love at first s... moreight between a god fearing man's daughter, Mercy and a playboy actor, Kit. The father refuses the match but Kit promises Mercy that he will find a way for them to be together. Between the two there is no substance between the two that the reader can identify with. It isn't until Kit is accused of Treason that there is something between them. Mercy stands up to her father and stand by Kit and eventually her father forgives her for choosing Kit and Kit is eventually released. I liked the story, I just think it had more potential to grasp the reader and keep them reading all night to find a wonderful ending to such a tale. less
