review 1: Lucy Hoffman, 13, is an American living in Ethiopia, never able to see the wild world behind the gates of her embassy compound. Her mother is an american ambassador, and Lucy's life isn't so normal. She could only imagine what it was like beyond the walls…until she's kidnapped. Lucy escapes, but has a bigger problem. Lucy must survive in the wild by herself. She must use her knowledge, hope, and courage to survive, but how? This book is one of my favorites because I love reading suspenseful and riveting stories, like this one. It keeps you on the edge from the beginning to the end and you never want to stop reading!
review 2: This was a believable adventure story rich with Ethiopian culture. Lucy is the ambassador's daughter. She is curious about everything
... more Ethiopian, however, when given an inch she takes a mile and finds herself housebound under lock and key with consequences for sneaking out. When she sneaks out, once again, with her best friend, she finds herself kidnapped in a hut in the wilderness. After escaping from her captors, she must use her knowledge of African animals and wilderness survival to stay alive and get rescued. The fact that it's based on a real life event made it even more fun to read. It's fast paced (kidnapping happens on page 25) and exciting. Great for grades 5 and up! less
