review 1: I found it an interesting book on how ordinary people stood up and acted with humanity. There was much analytic discussion regarding social psychology and studies down in the past that correlated with much of what was happening in the book. Aside all of that I learned to feel compassion for many of the people he talked about, and it bridged the gap in my understanding of what was happening at those particular times in history. A truly inspiring book, one worth reading and discussing.
review 2: Interesting and pretty discouraging. I am one of the people who thinks that if somebody "blows the whistle" there will be somebody, especially in the press or in a government agency, who will be outraged and take action. The basic message of the book seemed to be that if
... moreyou see wrongdoing being done you may need to address it to soothe your own conscience but that result will be the most you should expect. On the other hand, if you speak out it opens the door, if even in a very small way, for other people of conscience to follow suit. less
