review 1: Indelible Ink is about Marie King who’s in her late fifties, divorced and is about to sell the house where she lived since she got married. She had a conventional life and devoted it to her husband and three kids. She has an existential crisis and, she gets a tattoo… I didn’t enjoy reading Indelible Ink. I thought it was long and the characters had no depth. When we discussed it in my book club, some of the ladies absolutely loved it and read the 450 pages in a flash. I think I didn’t like it as much because I could not relate to any of the characters.
review 2: This book would have been better if it shed 100 pages. There is too much half-hearted diversion into the lives of the children and minor characters yet without ever bothering to get under ... moretheir skin enough to make me care. For example, the affair with Sylvia: too much about it, without making me really give a toss. The characters were almost without exception spoiled and unlikeable. Yet for all that the quality of the writing was strong and the theme was of interest: just badly executed. less
