review 1: It was very interesting learning that this story was loosely based on real people and events. The story, though lengthy, is an easy read in that the dialogue flows very naturally and the characters are pretty well developed. I liked the path the story took as it neared its ending. My only complaint is that it may have been a little wordier than really necessary. It started to drag at various points. But I never stopped reading, because each time it slowed down, it wasn't too long before something else happened. So can't complain too much!
review 2: Though beautifully written, the pace in this book wasn't fast enough to hold my interest, and I had to force myself to finish it. As a result, it took me much longer than it should have taken to read it. Although I
... more am a scientist myself, the study of butterflies intrigued me neither before nor after reading this book, though I was intrigued from a historical perspective. What I found lacking most of all was any sense of plot. I think the author sensed this and tried to remedy it by cramming in a lot towards the climax, albeit as backstory, resulting in a clumsy attempt at 'tying up the ends.' I shan't be reading another novel by this author in a hurry. less

Wow. I really enjoyed reading this book. Great historical fiction on a leading lady of entomology.

Beautiful story, but a bit contrived at times. Great historical fiction.
