review 1: This book was a fun read, I literally read it in one day while suntanning outside by my pool. I thought there would be a little bit more to this book, as in I would be more invested but I honestly just read it and didn't care what happened to my main character. Call me heartless but I thought I would die over this book, it had everything I like about books advertised on it! Masks, vintage stuff, romance, Italy, murder! What more could I ask for? I don't know, maybe some more in-depth view of my main character Cass? I just felt like (even though this book is far better then most I have read this year) she could have given me more. Falling in love and being conflicted with a love triangle (yes, there is that) I just felt like she was just saying it, I didn't personally feel ... moreany of it. Now there is a sequel coming out, but I'm confused what this book is setting me up for, I have an idea but Cass has none. If it wasn't for the secret of the rose pages between each chapter, the reader wouldn't know much either. I thought this book was going to have so much more for me then it did but over all it was an easy read. Maybe this is a series that just get better with each passing book as the plot gets more developed and there is more at risk but as for right now its just good.
review 2: I would have never pick up "Venom" if I had not won the second book through the ARC of Goodreads. I am so glad I won because the book was amazing. Normally I don't go for books that have murders in them it is just not my style. But "Venom" was not completely focused on the murders which made it easier for me to read. I loved watching Cass break out of her shell, along with her realizing that people may not always be who they say they are. I can't wait do dig out the second book out of my closet! less
