Knights of the Lunch Table
review 1: Cammuso, F. (2008). Knights of the Lunch Table The Dodgeball Chronicles. New York: GraphixJunior Book Log: Graphic Novel Kirkus ReviewsArtie King is the new kid at Camelot Middle School and his first day is all ready off to a rough start. He misses the bus, the school bully is out to get him, and the principal thinks he's a troublemaker. Artie ends up embarrassing the school bully and is challenged to a dodge ball game so the bully can try to redeem himself. Can Artie survive this modern day twist to King Arthur?I thought this book was really enjoyable because it was based on a classic story. I liked the funny similarities that I found between Artie King and King Arthur. In terms of using this in a classroom, I think this book is a great way to introduce young student to ... morethe basis of the story of King Arthur. Because this is a graphic novel, I also think this would be a good book to use to get students that don't usually read more interested in reading. This book would draw them in because of the vivid and prominent illustrations and the relatable dialogue.
review 2: I'm not a fan of graphic novels but this one is adorable. The PTA purchased copies of the first three books of the series Knights of the Lunch Table for my classroom library.I put these books out for students to read after STAAR testing. They devoured the books with one particular student reading all three books in one sitting.I love the legend of King Arthur references. I even like the drawings. It's a cute and light read. less
