review 1: I read this book in one sitting, and it was so funny and original that I know I'm going to read it a few more times. The first few stories are repetitive in their trajectory (almost going into something profoundly metaphoric, but instead going for the cheap joke), but the pieces then become more clever and complex, to the point where I was impressed with how he uses the mythological monster as a metaphor for real-life, outsider personalities. Well done and hysterical. I recommend to anyone who loves mythology, humor, and the weirdness of certain people :)
review 2: Charming, a little uneven, but largely funny, especially the chapters referring to classic film or mythology. Easy to pick up and put down, since the chapters are short and each one is about a diffe... morerent monster. While almost every vignette focuses on the same thing--what is it like to be a monster in our modern world?--Lesser did a great job using different approaches and scenarios to keep the book fresh. less
