review 1: I don't understand what people see in Mathewes-Green: I find her writing trite and pedestrian in the worst sense. (In general, that applies to almost everything I've read from this publisher.) This book is no different; in fact, it's probably the least interesting volume she's written. The whole thing seems forced - the book essentially ends after the first thirty pages, and then she managed to drag it on into 157 more pages. Which given the rich and simple (in the best sense) Orthodox tradition and practice of The Jesus Prayer is a damn shame. At least the bibliography was useful.
review 2: For me it was one on the books that change your perspective on a subject. Before I thought that the Jesus Prayer was something only Monks & Nuns can do. But reading through
... more the pages I was now only unable to put the book down but also was growing in the strength on the conviction, that the path of Orthodox Christian spirituality is also for me as well. Another pleasant thing about the book for me was, that it was in my opinion directed to women more then on men audience. it is a reality in any book that touches upon Theology in any was, some times it seems that they are written only with men in mind. Not this book! A delightful time consumer that I like to re-read from time to time. less
