review 1: This is every bit as good as the first book in this fanfic Harry Potter series of continuations, a generation later. I fact, I think it is a little better! The author takes several daring chances in this one, and gets away with them. The major characters (except for the major villains from the original series--oops! Was that a spoiler?) remain well-rounded, quirky and likeable. Despite adhering to the series's conventions - e.g. the adventure starts just before the school year begins and climaxes just before the school year ends--maybe - there are enough twists and turns to keep things from getting too predictable. Yet it all makes sense in the end, with a few leftover hints to fuel a future volume. Fifty points for G. Norman Lippert!
review 2: So far this ser
... moreies has been decent. I really enjoy some of the similarities to the Harry Potter series but having finished this book, I feel as though it might be too similar. Two young boys and a girl getting into shenanigans and saving the world all during the school year? It's all a little too familiar. Especially with the secretive nature of Merlin in this book specifically, it was very reminiscent of Dumbledore distancing himself from Harry in The Order of the Phoenix. Also, this book I felt was quite long and drawn out when it didn't need to be. The story would've kept me more entertained and captivated had it been a bit shorter and to the point not to mention more original and less to the "usual form" of the HP books. less
