review 1: Life has changed forever for Savannah Reid. She is married to her long-time friend and police partner Dirk Coulter and is learning about the good & the bad she will have to face. Their honeymoon on a small island, however, is interrupted by a local murder. After Savannah's friends and relatives help to solve the murder, the honeymooners return to Savannah's cottage to find that a "man-cave" has replaced the bedroom! Also, Tammy gives Dirk a long overdue opportunity to meet his birth parents & family. The importance of family & friends is again stressed in this story in many ways.
review 2: This was a kind of minor read; number 8 in the series, but the first one for me, so it could be I would get more out of it if I had read the earlier ones first. Savannah, a ... moreformer policewoman and private detective, has just celebrated nuptials with her beloved, low-class policeman Dirk. They honeymoon on a nearby island, but witness a local tv anchorwoman being shot to death, a killing the local female police chief seems intent on covering up. While the plot is lively, the characters are rife with too many low-class Southern stereotypes for me to really see them as people ("Husky" Savannah calls her newlywed hubby a "cow patty;" her little sister tries to seduce him by showing him her crotch, etc.) The husband was also a bit wierd; he comes off as extremely obnoxious, but only she can see the good in him; is that because he's going to turn bad later, so she can get divorced in another book? less
