review 1: Our book club nominated this book as an option for our next read, but we did not select it. I'm really glad we didn't - there definitely is not enough to discuss for a book club. I like Little Women, but I don't think I'm familiar enough with the book and/or movie because I didn't remember which sister was which. I think this book would have been better if the Little Women letters were eliminated and it was just a book about sisters. The idea of finding old letters and the impact they have on the characters has been done way too many times. People who have sisters may be able to relate to the book and enjoy it. I didn't particularly care about any of the characters and I had a difficult time remembering which sister was dating who and what the dad's name was,... more etc.
review 2: If Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth had left correspondence rather than been the subject of a novel, this is the book that would have occurred. From the other reviews I had not understood that a premise of this novel is that Little Women has never been written. I think this novel would have been more intriguing without that construct because some of the effort and the time devoted to developing Louisa May Alcott's characters could have improved the character development of our contemporary sisters. These women came across rather single dimensional and somewhat cartoonish. That said, it was a pleasant read. less
