review 1: Leigh Hunter is a boy every girl wants. Attractive, smart, popular, athletic, and extremely polite. He is looking for a job and doing all his work so it reflects on his grades and get into a better college. Then something terrible happens to his step-sister Millie and he is asked to move in with her and help her. As he helps Millie he meets odd Maia Morland who is a friend of Millie. Maia Morland is pretty, only not pretty- pretty. She's smart. She's brave. She's also a self proclaimed train wreck. As their friendship develops Leigh start falling in love with her until he is forever in love with her. But he has drop dead-beautiful, awesome Astra. His girlfriend and the girl every boy wants. Someway he finds a way to break up with her and when he does she is sad at first but... more then understands why. Their young love starts off like a romance novel- full of hope, strength, and passion. But life is not a romance novel and theirs will never become a true romance. For when Maia needs Leigh the most he breaks a promise and betrays both her trust and her love. Told with compassion and true understanding, AFTER THE MOMENT is about what happens when Leigh discovers that sometimes love fails us, and that, quite, often we fail love. I recommended it.
review 2: This was the first book of hers I ever read, and it immediately catapulted her into the ranks of my favorite authors. It broke my heart in a 500-Days-of-Summer way, which is not normally something I like to subject myself to, but I didn't care because everything felt so real. It helped that we started with 20-something characters and flashed back to high school in '03 (my age exactly), but it just took my breath away. It's one of the first times a male teenage protagonist has been completely thoughtful, complex, sympathetic and interesting. I read every page slowly, with a breathless sense of uncovering treasure. Incredibly rich. less

Highly disappointing. Badly paced and non-engaging.
