review 1: The “exciting” conclusion to what was promoted as an “epic saga” left this reader feeling like the creators played a cruel joke on those who followed the series all the way since Blackest Night. All that exciting and beautifully drawn buildup to an ending that felt incredibly preachy and out of left field only made the great writing that came before it feel like all smoke and no bang. The character development was there and plot points are resolved in an orderly manner but, at least to me, the ending just didn’t deliver.
review 2: The still unfinished Martian Manhunter story went far too long and wasn't as interesting compared to the other stories interwoven in this book. One issue comprised in this collection felt like it was devoted entirely to that
... more one story alone and had wordballoons up the wazoo on double page spreads. [Zzzzzzz!] Likewise the "Let's go down memory lane" scene with the Hawk people. Overall, I've enjoyed the Aquaman and Hawkman story the most thus far because the art is usually fantastic, but this series reads like it's purposely padded out and thus far I'd note it's less effective than, say, 52. less
