review 1: Guilt, responsibility, confession, and consequences are the themes in this carefully crafted story. The author builds suspense with sparse details and encounters, drawing the reader into a sense of dread and expectation. In the end, the reader discovers that roles have reversed, and the evil that's been dreaded is more a force for good than a monster. Excellent insights, with a satisfactory - if not completely resolved - finale.
review 2: I was completely engrossed in this book. Suspense grew as I followed Amy and Simon through each chapter trying to figure out whose story was true and whose was not. It is a very good example of how events that take place in our lives are looked differently by each person involved in the situation. As much as I enjoyed the book
... more, I was let down by the ending. I keep asking myself, "was the ending left unanswered purposely for the reader to create his/her own ending?" Or were we led to an ending that I just didn't comprehend. This story left me feeling "unfinished." less

This was a quick read. I liked the Maine setting, but I didn't care for the characters.
