review 1: Very interesting story, I felt compelled to finish it in one sitting. The title is misleading, only in that it is not the usual story of bloodsucking, dingy castles, and the like. It is also misleading with the "gay" association some of the other reviewers on this site seem to postulate. I felt that Ernest's relationship with Clarke was quite hetero; bear in mind Clarke was his senior and was revered in his field (Ernest was a poet after all, they tend to be a little sentimental I think you'll find - again those who bear any artistic skill *cough* must *cough* be gay). In regard to his relationship with Jack; I felt that it was nothing more than the love two friends share whom have know each other for quite a long time. The blossoming, tragic romance shared between Ernest ... moreand Ethel was something that felt very familiar to me. Her assumptions of his writing poetry "at" lovers is something I too have been guilty of. Moving on, I honestly love the period in which it is set. I specifically enjoy a lot of the art produced in the early 1900's. The dialogue between characters was superb, Ethel's conversation with Clarke had me chomping at the bit for more. At certain points the story seems to move slow, at other points rather hastily often times over-stepping things, but it carries itself well. Overall, a great read.
review 2: I read this book so fast and I really liked it. It as very unique and entertaining. Although it classifies itself as the first gay vampire novel, I do not think it is gay enough. However, I really love the psychic vampire concept and the part where the vampire can suck more than just blood, they can even suck your minds and souls in diverse ways. Truly a wonderful gem that I really like. It reminded me of Dorian Gray actually. I hope it was longer though but then, it is perfect already in its own way. less

Better than I expected. I thought the female character (Ethel) was treated with surprising sympathy.

I liked it but it felt like it was cut short. I want to know what happens to everyone.

If this story was longer it would have been 5 stars but a good story nonetheless.
