review 1: It’s hard to describe this marvelous counting book that is not for the youngest child, but older ones who can take the time to examine closely each page as farm animals are added, starting with a flea! Each time, it’s mostly black and white animals that fill up the page, and as the artist, Gianna Marino, adds them, it becomes a puzzle, the counting, and seeing where she has hidden them. And really they aren’t hidden, just camouflaged in the blacks and whites, all in plain sight! It’s a marvel to see, with a terrific surprise at the end.
review 2: This beautiful book by Gianna Marino is a followup to her remarkable ZOOPA ABC book. In this new tale, more and more gorgeously rendered animals gather around a water trough. The challenge for kids (and adults
... more) is to find out which is the new addition. Simple at first, but by the time animal number 8 comes on the scene the page is jam-packed with 36 black and white animals. A helpful flea bounces out the number and gives a hint of the identity of the new arrivals. Everyone will be awed by the art. These animals are simply beautiful. Kids will love it and be engaged in its seek-and-find and counting/adding activities. And the hilarious end will make them LOL. less
