review 1: I liked this book because it's about a boy who likes creatures and football, just like me. Only he didn't like creatures until a girl told him to, you know what girls are like. The creature is this amazing rare bird called an Osprey and they have to keep it secret or else crooks will come and take her eggs. I found out from this book that Ospreys have to fly to Africa every year just to keep warm, then they come back to Scotland to rear their young - and my mum complains about having to go to the shops for us!
review 2: This book is aimed at the younger readers and is quite an easy read, i found it a really heartwarming story and couldnt put it down. The story is set in Scotland and starts with the discovery of a rare birds nest on the farmland belonging to
... moreone of the boys, he starts a friendship with a young local girl , they both realise the importance of secrecy to protect the bird. The girl has been abandoned by her mother and has returned to live with her alcoholic grandfather and has a hard time with the rest of the village children. After saving the birds life with the help of a local ranger the bird has a transmitter fitted to it and when it migrates they are able to follow the birds flight to Africa, this leads to a friendship with a young Gambian girl and when they reallise the girl needs help the whole village get involved. The author has obviously got a good knowledge of birds migratory patterns and it did make me think of how far these birds travel and the perils they face,in the story the local school get involved following the birds route and are learning geography as they follow it . The story is about friendship, trust, loss, and community spirit. less
