review 1: In the emotional book White Dolphin by Gill Lewis, there are two kids who protest against trawlers to protect the reef on the coast of England. In the story, Kara finds a stranded dolphin on the beach all tangled with fishing net. Soon she meets a boy named Felix and together they try to save the reef. Powerful people are trying to stop them from lifting the ban. I really enjoyed this book because it was fast paced, emotional, and it makes you think about how you treat your environment. Overall, this was a really great book!
review 2: This is a contemporary realistic fiction about a young girl, Kara with dylexia, whose mother has disappeared on an expedition at sea and has never been found. Kara and a boy who has cerebral palsy embark on a quest to find out wh
... moreat happened to Kara’s mother and to save the town’s reef bay from destruction by dredgers. In her journey to find answers Kara learns she needs to move on without her mother.I would recommend this book for grades 4-6. This book has environment themes that could connect with a science lesson on marine biology. less
