review 1: I really loved this book. This book was thoroughly researched and had a good pace. I enjoyed seeing the inner workings of how Netflix started. This book was a good resource that showed how strong business leadership can drive a company. Blockbuster had the resources to continue to be the leader in movie rentals. However, misguided management caused Blockboster to loose their edge and Netflix stepped in with a good business model for success. This book showed how volitale it can be to be on top of the industry. I aslo enjoyed seeing how technology played a factor in Netflix being successful. The author added other technology wranglings in this book, including the fight between Digital HD and Blu-Ray. This is an outstanding book.
review 2: Very readable, interest
... moreing book discussing how Netflix fought Blockbuster (and other competitors; there's some discussion of Redbox, Walmart.com, and Amazon's own entries into the marketplace). Even though readers nowadays know the eventual outcome of the battle, the narrative was gripping, as the details of the price wars and the effect on the companies are not something I'd seen described before. It was also great to see how much the execution of the strategies was subject to second guessing by investors and the boards of directors; it will make me take a much closer view at some financial reporting! less
