review 1: I started this book with high expectations, and the only reason I finished it was because I wanted to know how it ended. Once it ended, I felt that I had wasted my time. This book took far too long to conclude and the conclusion was kind of a crapshoot. I get where Faletti went with his characters, but I feel like this book had far too many loose-cannon subplots running around that distracted from the overall story. I was quickly sucked into the book because I wanted to see how it played out, but like I said, it was quite disappointing. I'll give it 3 stars because I truly did want to read it in its entirety so that I could get the full picture, but I was left quite unsatisfied.
review 2: Ebbene sì, lo posso confermare... "Faletti is back!" E' tornato all... morea grande il Faletti di "Io uccido", con un giallo classico, ma che affonda le radici nella storia, in quella tristissima pagina di storia che è la guerra del Vietnam. Avevo amato "Io uccido" e "Niente di vero tranne gli occhi", avevo apprezzato sebbene con qualche perplessità "Fuori da un evidente destino", ho ancora tra i libri da leggere "Pochi inutili nascondigli"... ma questo sì, davvero questo è il Faletti più riuscito, quello che ti sorprende ad ogni svolta, quello che ti porta dove non ti aspetti, quello che pur sapendo già che "l'assassino è quello più insospettabile" ti sorprende lo stesso perchè non ci si crede, e ti tiene incollata alle pagine fino all'ultimo, fino a dimenticare di avere delle cose da fare... tutto può aspettare, lo devi finire, non puoi lasciare... questo chiedo io a un libro, mi deve "prendere", deve catturare la mia attenzione e la mia curiosità, anche se si tratta di un libro "da ombrellone", certo, perchè di questo si tratta... intrattenimento allo stato puro. E' giusto così. Quattro stelle piene e meritate. less
