review 1: Read the other reviews where people say this book is awful.....did they read the same book as me? I thought it was fast moving and kept me going right to the final twist (which I didn't see coming) not far from the end. Someone else complained about the grammar and how the book lost it's flow when it was translated from Italian? Rubbish. If you didn't know before hand you wouldn't know when you had finished it. I got this for 99p in the Christmas sale.....I would gladly pay full price for it.
review 2: An interesting thriller, well written, with a few common ingredients in this type of narratives, and that was able to catch the reader attention. I considered it a good book until I reach the end of it… but one step at the time.Vivian, a New York police detecti... moreve is called for the investigation to find out the author of a series of bomb attacks, which brings back some of the ghosts of the 9-11. During the investigation, the journalist Russell, who had meanwhile fallen in disgrace, gets also involved. I think I don’t have to add the fact that these two characters form the romantic couple of the story (of course!). Throughout history we are confronted with the past of the Vietnam War, as well as with a set of personal issues that concerns Vivian and Russell.And of course, the assassin - who claims himself as God - is discovered.However, the end, as presented, left me a bitter taste by the way it sounded artificial. If, on the one hand, the author takes us through devious ways, casting some confusion about the identity of the author of the attacks, on the other, the outcome sounds too forced to please. Of course, I will not reveal anything more about this. I don’t want to spoil the pleasure of those who want to read this book. Despite this my opinion, I think it is a book for those who like thrillers.As I was reading the book, I was convinced to give 4 stars. However, this opinion faded, leaving therefore the rating of 3 out of 5.-------------------------Um thriller interessante, bem construído, com alguns ingredientes comuns neste tipo de narrativas, e que consegue em certa medida prender o leitor. O livro até foi bastante interessante até chegar ao final... Mas vamos por partes.Vivian, uma inspectora da polícia de Nova Iorque vê-se a braços com a investigação que tenta chegar ao autor de uma série de atentados bombistas, trazendo de volta alguns dos fantasmas do 11 de Setembro. No meio desta investigação acaba por envolver-se o jornalista Russel, que entretanto tinha caído em desgraça. Não será necessário acrescentar que estes dois formam o par romântico da história (não podia faltar, não é). Ao longo da história somos confrontados com o passado da guerra do Vietnam, assim como com os diversos problemas pessoais que assolam as personagens principais desta história. E claro, o assassino - que afirma que é Deus - é descoberto.Mas o final, tal como foi montado, acabo por deixar um certo amargo de boca, pela forma artificial como ele se apresenta. Se, por um lado, o autor nos leva por caminhos tortuosos, lançando alguma confusão sobre a identidade do autor dos atentados, por outro, o desenlace soa demasiado forçado para agradar. Naturalmente, não irei revelar mais nada a este respeito para não estragar o prazer de quem queira ler este livro. Apesar desta minha opinião, penso que é um livro para quem gosta de thrillers.Se, a medida que ia lendo o livro, estava convencido em dar 4 estrelas, essa opinião esmoreceu bastante, ficando, por isso, pela classificação de 3 em 5. less
