review 1: I have to say that the narrator is brilliant on this audio version. I have no doubt that, had I been reading the print version, I would have found the continued internal dialogue a little unnecessary and tiresome. There is nothing particularly original in the plot but it was an enjoyable read (listen)with a plot that does not demand constant attention and I would recommend to the normal crew as a light holiday read.
review 2: I loved the first book in this series - The Last Werewolf - which is why I took it almost for granted that I would love this sequel. And from a certain standpoint I did enjoy it - in fact my dislike for this book was far from immediate; it crept up on me. A little more than halfway through the book I realized what was happening. The nar
... morerator of the first book was Jake - the last werewolf, but then notsomuch. Jake never made it out of that book, and so Talulla is the protagonist and narrator now, which is where the problem lies. I have read books written by men in the voice of a woman before, and often been impressed with the results. This is not the case with Talulla and Glen Duncan. Duncan is a very impressive writer, with a voice so interesting that I followed it 2/3 of the way though this book before I noticed what I percieve as fairly strong misogyny running deeply throughout. There is a chance that this was done deliberately, but eitherway it was something that I disliked. In fact it got under my skin so that I struggled to finish that book at all, in spite of the fact that Duncan's prose is higly readable. less
