review 1: Loved it. From the 8th. century to now is a long time. One thing that usually bothers me is the jumping back and forth, but this was smooth and filled in the gaps very nicely. Life in a monastery is hard enough but for a savant who can't talk and won't listen it could be deadly. In the year 777 on the 7th day of the 7th month to a 7th son a 7th son was born. He was named Octavus.Will Piper was a washed up FBI profiler. He was just biding his time to retirement. That all goes down the drain when a serial killer comes to New York. Will gets stuck with the case and a new partner. He didn't want either.This book has great dialogue and suspense. It's hard to tell sometimes who is the good guy and who is the bad. Not only is this a great police procedural but is shows how the d... moreark side of law can work. It even tells you what is inside the famous "Area 51." I already have the other 2 books of this trilogy.
review 2: From cover to cover in less than 12 hours. Absolutely amazing! Archaeological, historical and political plot was just what needed next to crime. The only ''problem'' was maybe the story lines which overlapped and sometimes it looked like the writer forgot in a hundred pages or so to continue with the last story (time line), so it was a bit confusing and if you don't catch that early you might miss the point of the book. But other than that truly amazing. The sequel ''The book of souls'' ends nicely the plot and rediscovers the mystery behind ''the ancient writers and books'' and also leaves you hanging on the idea what might happen on the 9th of February 2027 ;) less
