review 1: Reading this book was infuriating and enlightening, and left me with a shaking head and clenched fists. Greenwald, one of the most important and essential journalists working today, gives a blow by blow accounting of the two-tier system in place in American society and politics today, and the effects of that fiscally based bifurcated system. In the wake of Supreme Court decisions that assert that corporations ought to be afforded the same rights as human beings, Greenwald's book serves as a sobering reminder that increasingly (and inevitably) in America today, money does not only talk, it also walks when illegality occurs.Focusing in on the roots of the two-tier legal system in Watergate and the Iran-Contra Scandal, Greenwald illuminates the machinations behind the bank ... morebailout, the mortgage crisis, NSA spying, the US role in torture, and the inequitable prison system, to name but a few, Greenwald makes his case with facts that are coldly incontrovertible and sobering. I'd recommend this book to anyone who cares to know the truth of what is happening in America today.
review 2: When I really really like a book, I don't usually review it as I'm worried I won't do it any justice. But Glenn Greenwald's 'With Liberty and Justice for Some' is such an amazing book I want all my Goodreads friends to know that it's a must-read piece.Indeed, it is not really news that powerful and rich people in the States are enjoying the privilege of immunity. As many people do, before reading this book I knew already that Bush has not been held accountable for the torture in Guantanamo, wiretapping Americans without warrants, and all that. But the thing to be admired about this book is that it's very well-researched and the examples used are just spot on. The facts narrated are jaw-dropping - I didn't expect that the state of inequality before the law in the States is *that* bad. I felt like reading stories on Indonesia, only with Western names in it :-/I would recommend this book to everyone who is interested in the issues of law and equality. If you're not familiar with or interested in American politics or law, please please do not be discouraged. The book is very easy to read and its main idea as well as many of discussed topics are relevant with the situation in many countries today. less

Interesting. Quick read. If you are about to quit earlier, skip to Chapter 5.
