review 1: The art and design here are positively gorgeous, in a way that helps these characters feel like real people. I thought the writing was good, and I liked what Dillon decided to leave out and include, where and when he decided to start and stop... but ultimately I have no idea how realistic his portrait of mental illness is, and I don't feel particularly qualified to judge that part of the story. That's not a demerit; I thought that part of the book was well done and convincing, I'm just open to being totally wrong about it. Then, as many here have noted, there's the issue of how things suddenly accelerate and lapse into tell-not-show near the end; ultimately I guess I wish it were longer (a good problem to have). Still very good and worth reading (and, as mentioned, beautif... moreully drawn/painted), but just a bit less great than I thought it was going to be.
review 2: Nella classifica l’avete visto lassù, al primo posto. E probabilmente lo sarebbe di una classifica che prende dai tre ai quattro anni. La storia è bella in maniera imbarazzate ragazza con disturbo DOC incontra l’amore, da lì rivede piano piano i suoi meccanismi, la sua relatività e priorità. La cosa bella del libro a parte l’impianto puramente visivo (che avviso ora inarrivabile per chi disegna da qui all’eternità probabilmente, forse gli tiene testa Fiona Staples a Dillon, e non lo so) è la storia che a tratti cita Murakami, altri sembra di trovarsi di fronte a uno splendido racconto per il Sundance Film Festival. Di quelli con tanti fazzoletti vicino per intenderci. Manco ve lo dico di comprarlo, per me in libreria o partite che avete questo I Kill Giants, Maus e Watchmen o con voi non ci parlo. less
