review 1: When I first read the title, my mind automatically jumped straight to islamophobic rhetoric, cheap, prejudiced, disgusting, but a bestseller these days. But then, as usual, I would go through the review on the back and skim through some pages, and immediately those thoughts evaporated into thin air. The book is anything but prejudiced and - at least - islamophobic."Complex" minds ask the simplest questions, and here the complex mind Graham E. Fuller (ex-CIA analyst) asks the simplest question of all in the world of politics: What of there was no Islam? Would the geopolitical scene be any different? Is Islam to be blamed for all the turbulence in the Middle East? The book would certainly be an eye-opener for any honest victim of the biased soft power, would certainly make ha... morerdliner islamophobics sick to the stomach, and would undoubtedly elicit an unlimited number of "Duh!"s from Muslims suffering from both the islamophobic and the radically religious rhetoric. This rare book further confirms the idea that it is not religion to blame, but the pursuit of power and wealth that is endowed by the banner of that religion, an idea I have always entertained but seen underplayed.
review 2: People have a lot of misconception about Middle East, the author goes on to dissolve them. You know I have always wondered if Islam was the reason for terrorism how come we don't see terrorism rising in South-Asian countries (Indonesia and Malaysia has some of the largest Muslim population). This book answers that question pretty convincingly. It is the history which matters not the religion itself! less
