review 1: After reading this book, all I could think was, "now what?" If indeed there is a universe in this sparse desert of a book, someone please illuminate. Other reviewers say the protagonist is in the midst of PTSD which certainly makes sense in this, "I'm in limbo, let me melt out of life." Maybe, I needed to have met this character when he's 10 years more mature. It's like Hemingway goes to Iraq. Yes, bad stuff happens, and whether he takes blame or doesn't, I'm waiting for this guy to put on his "big boy" pants, and choose something besides quiet desperation.
review 2: I really enjoyed this. It's a novel with little plot, but incredible detail. It takes place in a single day. The narrator/main character is an American looking for an apartment in the unnamed Eu
... moreropean city where he has moved. The day unfolds via stream of consciousness mixing the present day with memories, observations about the city, and interactions with other people. Really well written. I look forward to reading more of this author's work. less

Not sure what I was expecting, but I couldn't get into this book. It is on my could not finish list.
