review 1: This is cute story to read aloud for primary students. It is easy for students to interact with the book and help predict what the dog will want to do at the end in regards to little red riding hood. They can also decide which shoes would be good for each activity. Young students would enjoy listening to this story although does not contain any deep lessons or discussion topics. I would just use it as a read aloud probably.
review 2: Dog in boots by Greg Gormely is a very appealing and cute story. Dog loves to read and when he finishes the book Puss in Boots he discovers that he really wants to have boots just like the brave and heroic cat! So he takes a little trip to the local shoe store. Dog shows the shopkeeper the boots that Puss is wearing in the book
... moreand he gives him four of the perfect boots, or so he thought. Dog gets home with his new boots and figures out that they aren't the best boots to dig up his favorite bone in. They got dirty and didn't do a good job so Dog decided to take them back to the shoe store. Once there Dog decides that he needs different boots that would be better for digging. So the shopkeeper gives him four of the best rain boots which will be perfect for digging. Dog goes home and the rain boots worked perfectly for digging, but when he tried to go swimming, they filled up with water and he sank to the bottom of the pond! Dog goes back and fourth from his backyard and home to the shoe store trying to find the perfect boots for digging, swimming, scratching, and running. Although each of his shoes that he tries on worked for one of his activities really well, they didn't work for any of the other things he likes to do. Finally on his last trip he discovers that the best shoes that a dog can have for all of his favorite things are his own paws! He is so excited with what he has that he goes home and swims and runs and scratches and digs all day long with no problems! Dog finally realizes that he should be happy with what he has because he was built with the perfect tools! But once back at the house he decides to read another book and you are wondering what will dog do next! The illustrations are great because they are large and are colorful. They portray dog's emotions and feelings perfect. They also make you laugh at the silly shoes and troubles that dog goes through to find the perfect pair. I am sure that children will love reading about dog figuring out that what he was given is the best thing for him. Children can learn that they should be happy with what they got. It sends a great message and it is illustrated perfectly. It has a cute ending and you fall in love with this little guy every time! less
