review 1: I wanted to like this book, I really did. But the alternate history just didn't work very well and the action was over the top silly. The heroine was shallow and self absorbed and her partner was completely undeveloped as a character, even though they were supposed to be in love for some reason. I gave up half way through. Gini Koch does a much better send up of a sci fi mash up with her Alien Tango series. I gave this two stars for originality and effort, but I won't continue this series.
review 2: keeping this short. I could not for the life of me. Yes that serious. Get myself to finish this book. Why? The main character irritated me to know end. I can easily (most preferably in fact) throw believability in a story to the wind. I want to be taken away by imag
... moreination where fantasy is king. With that said I don't say "I didn't like a story because it was to unrealistic." Realism plays no part. That is unless the author rights the story that way. That's where I have issues, or an issue with this tale. Here we have alternate history (awesome! I love when history is changed.) We also have corporate espionage and assassinations. (Loving it!) My glaring problem is the main character Alix Nico. She's a disrespectful, unappreciative spoiled, immature brat. Why should this bother me so much? Well here she has been accepted into a highly elite spy/hit team. Augmented with expensive top of the line enhancements and entrusted with the lives of her team and employers. Yet she has the attitude of a 12 year old. Not a 19 year old that is placed in a position of importance and no expense is spared to get her there. I was in the Army at 19 and personally accepted into an elite unit because of my maturity level and ability to get along with my team to accomplish our missions. Alix would never be allowed in any unit, specially one tasked with the missions they operate under. She's to irresponsible and immature. Sorry but not all 19 year olds act like spoiled, demanding, disrespectful children. Some like I was, appreciated and strived to prove myself to those that selected me, no mistakes were made. mistakes cost lives. Yet I'm to believe that she's the best in this world the author created? Sorry but I can't. Alix Nico needs to lose her position and be placed over a knee then spanked. Once she grows up then maybe she could reapply to the unit. For me the author failed with this character. less

Interesting concept, but the plot is not cohesive and the characters feel underdeveloped.
